Do-It-Yourself Paint Sample Egg Garland
![]() |
Image from ThrivingHomeBlog.com |
Easter is so much fun to decorate for, its like bringing Spring inside! Here is one of our favorite Pinterest crafts found on ThrivingHomeBlog.com to help you put some Spring in your celebration!
This craft requires cardboard or thick cardstock, paint samples, scissors, hole punch, and ribbon. Large paint samples will give your eggs more options on color patterns. (Another cute take on this craft is to use Easter or Spring themed scrapbook paper, craft paper, or card stock.)
Using he cardboard, or thick card stock, creat an egg shaped tempate. Then, use the template to outline an egg shape as desired on your paint samples. Then, use patience to cut out as many eggs as you want/need for desired length of garland.
Punch two holes at the top of each egg to weave your ribbon through. "Line the eggs up in the pattern you would like, (ombre, rainbow, random, etc.) and weave your ribbon through.

Defeating Clutter
![]() |
Image from blog.ManhattanMiniStorage.com |
Clutter becomes that unwanted house guest you can't get rid of.
FlyLady, flylady.net
This really can be the biggest problem to cleaning. According to FlyLady, clutter is CHAOS, it can't be organized! This Spring, lets commit to stopping clutter with these simple tips:
1. Identify Problem Areas
Do you ever say, "I'm going to clean the Living Room today!" Then, BAM, there's that one spot that when you walk in the room, it just pulls you down, kills your mood?
"Hot Spots" (flylady.net) are dumping grounds where you things tend to build up, such as a table by the front door, a certain counter in the kitchen, etc. Learning where these spots occur and how to fight them can help keep your home from being overrun.
2. Develop a "Do it Now" Mentality
A lot of the time, clutter doesn't accumulate from a one time mess, it is a pattern of, "I'll clean it up later".
Retrain yourself to do it now! David Allen, "Getting Things Done", suggests taking the time to make a decision in the moment and not setting stuff aside for later. Also, cleaning up after ourselves the first time means we don't have to force ourselves to come back later to take care of a mess.
3. Pencil It In
3. Pencil It In
Give yourself some deadlines or schedules. It gives you a goal to work towards and helps keep you on track.
This works for the big stuff and big goals or projects, but also for the day to day stuff. Schedule a morning routine for getting out the door in the morning, difficult with or without kids, and a routine for at night. This, aside from making sure you've carved out enough time for a relaxing shower and getting the dishes done, gives a great head start for the next day. Its easier to get going in the morning when you already have your clothes ready and lunch packed.
4. Habits, Habits, Habits
Rome wasn't de-cluttered in a day you know.
Habits to keep our lives free of clutter will take time, won't always b executed perfectly, and will change as our lives change. Keep working on training yourself to "do it now" and set routines.

Pizza Box Stepping Stones
![]() | |
Image from OhWhatABeautifulGarden.com |
A great craft to do in Spring is make your own stepping stones for the garden. They are fun and personal. An easy form to use is a pizza box. Tiles, glass beads, stones, river rocks and other garden finds are some ideas to decorate them with. Make a them, pattern, or just play to create a design. Have a design ready before mixing the Quickcrete. Some sources recommend spraying cooking spray inside the pizza box for easy removal later. Mix the concrete to the right consistency, mushy but not soupy, and pour into the pizza box. Add your design to the top, if they are not settling on top let it set a little more. Once done, mist the top and wrap entirely in plastic wrap. Once a day for 5-28 days, depending on use, mist and re-wrap in plastic wrap. When its done, you'll have a great, personal decoration or sturdy stepping stone for your garden or backyard!

Cleaning Exterior Windows
Ah! Spring is in the air! Mostly, anyways. Sure, some places in the country are still slogging around in snow boots but a gentler, fresher breeze is coming in. Its time to start spring cleaning, where we get rid of all the grime of winter and let the sun shine in! Here some tips to help you brighten up!
1. Scrub
Scrub windows with a bucket of warm water that has just a squirt of liquid dish soap. Use a strip applicator or a natural sponge to scrub and loosen dirt without scratching the glass. A strip applicator is best for picture windows and the sponge is best suited for multi pane windows.
2. Squeegee
For picture windows, start with squeegee at the top and pull down in an S pattern. For multi pane windows you'll need to cut down your squeegee, or find a small one that fits, to approximately 1/4" shorter than the width of an individual pane. Pull straight down from top to bottom. No matter which type of window, wipe the squeegee after every swipe, to prevent streaking.
3. Dry
Use a chamois to remove any remaining water from edges.
4. Stubborn Stains
Hard water or mineral stines leave their mark on your glass. For the stubborn ones, try wetter the glass and gently scrubbing with No. 000 steel wool. Another option is a window cleansing powder with oxalic acid.

Tips for Cleaning Hardwood Floors
Hardwood floors are beautiful and each one is unique. However, while they're strong and durable, they do have some enemies: scratches and water. Here are some tips to keep your lovely hardwood floors clean and damage free.1. Watch Your Finish
Always clean depending on your hardwood flooring's finish. Some have a glossier, surface seal, or hard seal, from being finished with more modern methods of polyurethane, urethane, or a polyacrylic. Others are finished with a softer, more traditional means of shellac, lacquer, or varnish.
2. General Cleaning
Keep your floors cleared daily, or dirt and debris that may cause scratches, by sweeping with a soft bristled broom. For extra, weekly, cleaning, vacuum floor with a soft, floor brush attachment.
3. Deeper Cleaning
Every 6 months or so, try a wood cleaning product, following labeled instructions. Rinse, if required, with a just damp sponge or mop. Dry excess liquid to avoid standing water.
4. Stains on a Soft Finish
Tips from Better Homes and Garden
If your floors are finished with a soft finish, here are some additional tips for stains. (If you have a hard finish, just clean and wipe with a damp cloth and dry). Be prepared though, to stain, wax, and buff treated area to match the rest of the floor.
Dark Spots and Pet Stains: Rub the spot with No. 000 steel wool and floor wax.
Heel Marks: Use fine steel wool to run in floor wax.
Oil Based Stains: Rub the area with a soft cloth and dishwashing detergent to break down th
grease. Rinse with clean water.
Water Marks or White Stains: Rub the spot with No. 000 steel wool and floor wax.
